Rohit Dhawan (Dishoom) joins Ashutosh Gowariker, Karan Johar, Ajay Devgn and Aditya Chopra

Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar, Ashutosh Gowariker - These are some of the notable Bollywood directors who have been missing in action for a really long time. 2016 is set to be a landmark year though as each one of them, along with Ajay Devgn, is releasing a film after a hiatus. On the other hand some relatively newbie directors are also returning with a biggie. Rohit Dhawan is one such filmmaker.

Rohit Dhawan - 5 years
Last release - Desi Boyz [2011]
Next release - Dishoom [2016]

It is rather surprising that Rohit Dhawan decided to wait for so long before starting his next. Desi Boyz, with which he made his debut, was a decent success and its songs continue to be chartbusters till date. Still, there is a gap of half a decade between the Akshay Kumar-John Abraham starrer and the John Abraham-Varun Dhawan flick. Sajid Nadiadwala and Eros trusted him to deliver goods, and he is back in style!

Ashutosh Gowariker - 6 years
Last release - Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey [2010]
Next release - Mohenjo Daro [2016]

Whatever Ashutosh Gowariker makes, it has to be big. And when something is big, boasts of a scale and certain grandeur, it is bound to take time. This is what is pretty much on the cards for Mohenjo Daro as well which has him pairing up with Hrithik Roshan again after Jodhaa Akbar. One expects something magical on the cards.

Karan Johar - 4 years
Last release - Student of the Year [2012]
Next release - Ae Dil Hai Mushkil [2016]

Karan Johar continues to be one of the most popular faces in all forms of media covering Bollywood. This is the reason why it seems like he hadn't taken any break whatsoever, despite the fact that Student of the Year released four years back. In the interim period, he has produced quite a few films and also appeared on television as a host. Now Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is being pitched as a classical musical love story!

Ajay Devgn - 8 years
Last release - U Me Aur Hum [2008]
Next release - Shivaay [2016]

His U Me Aur Hum was a well-made sensitive affair but it couldn't do well commercially. Ajay Devgn did give a class treatment to the film which brought him together with Kajol as a co-star as well. With Shivaay, he is returning to direction and this time the film has been set as a magnum opus affair. The film, which has Eros and Pen backing it up, promises to have all it that takes to be a huge big screen entertainer.

Aditya Chopra - 8 years
Last release - Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi [2008]
Next release - Befikre [2016]

If there is one complaint from Aditya Chopra, it is about the fact that he doesn't direct too many movies. In a filmmaking career that has lasted a couple of decades already, Aditya has directed only three films. Eight years after his Shah Rukh Khan starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, a super hit at the Box Office, Aditya is now returning with an unabashed new age romantic music [Befikre] with Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor.
