I did mention in my first interview of Amit Sadh that he is a leading man. But it would be too early to state that he is a mainstream cult. But there is no denying that he is the talk of the town now after Kai Po Che's stupendous run at the box office in its third week. Ask anyone about Amit Sadh and the reaction is the same, "He was cute in the first half and menacing in the second". The attraction? Yes, it's unanimous. Sadh's intriguingly enigmatic and a charmer of the first order, both on and off the screen. Sadh's ability to convey a range of often competing emotions without going over the top - used to such great effect in Kai Po Che is a testament that he's here to sustain. Here I present Amit in an upbeat mode with the acclaim and success he's garnered post Kai Po Che.

After Kai Po Che, is your phone buzzing?

I've been asked this question in Press Conference - What are you doing next? And it'll be silly of me to say I'm doing this & that. Yes, I have got offers and I am reading a few scripts as of now. People had doubts before Kai Po Che's release and they were not signing me but post the release a lot of filmmakers have called me and praised my work. So yes, my phone is buzzing.

Would you call Kai Po Che a sleeper hit?

You know, before we started to shoot we knew we were making something special here. We really weren't expecting it to garner such a response. What really worked I feel is the fact that we surpassed our own expectations. It's doing very well in the overseas and it's a humbling feeling. I've been honoured.

The time for solo heroes are over then?

I'd love to be in ensemble films. But clearly I don't get the words ensemble, solo hero, etc. I am an actor and I will do what's good for me. I might do a film which has ten actors too. I understand the power of stories. I don't take myself seriously but I do take my work seriously. When you see an Aamir Khan film you don't see Aamir Khan the actor. You see his character. I want to do that. I'm sure people didn't go to watch Amit Sadh in Kai Po Che. They went to watch the movie and those characters, the friends.

What was complex? Your portrayal in the first half or the second?

The character I played in the film was not an easy one. It had layers. It was complex. To maintain the continuity was difficult. In the second half, I don't walk or talk or behave like my character in the first half. There is a drastic change in him physically and mentally. It took me a few months to get out of my character to be honest. The power of a character is what I like.
