It is confirmed. Chennai Express is now definitely arriving on Eid, a day that had been originally blocked by Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 for its release. Now that the Shah Rukh Khan starrer is challenging the Akshay Kumar flick, it is time for bets to be placed. However, before one does that, all eyes are on the First Look of the two films which is being guarded in a big way by the respective makers.
“No one is making an announcement yet,” says a source, “It is not about taking an early lead, it is about playing it smart. A lot is riding on these films, not just commercially but also from box office standing perspective. It is imperative that they launch the First Look properly rather than hurry it up and in the process risk something sub-standard being released.”
No wonder, there is absolute silence on part of the makers even though the ones close to them have had a sneak peak at what is in store.
“There is a strong possibility that the promo of Chennai Express would be attached to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. After all, Shah Rukh Khan’s film would get maximum mileage by arriving along with the Karan Johar production. However, there is no confirmation around that yet. On the other hand the promo of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, in director Milan Luthria’s words, is being readied on a ‘dheemi aanch’. In other words, he is not in a hurry and wants it to be perfect before served,” the source adds.
For those waiting for the two biggies though, it is a clash worth waiting for as it would be the biggest that Bollywood would have seen for a very long time. They could well get a glimpse of what lies ahead once the promos are unveiled. It is almost certain though that the promos won’t be separated by more than a week and the ‘events’ would take place within a month from now.
However, with an air of secrecy even around that, one can well expect that this battle is going to take the shape of a full-on war soon. Watch this space.
