In a dialogue in Bareilly Ki Barfi, a prospective groom asks Bitti (Kriti Sanon) if she’s a virgin. She replies by asking if he’s a virgin. “That doesn’t matter. What matters is if you’re a virgin,” he says. Bitti replies, that she’s not a virgin. Talking about this particular scene and the rampant hypocrisy surrounding a girl’s virginity in India, Kriti Sanon and Ayushmann Khurrana in an exclusive interview with Faridoon Shahryar shared their exasperation with the bizarre mindset.
Both Kriti Sanon and Ayushmann Khurrana expressed their outrage at the orthodox mindset which is prevalent both in urban cities as well as small towns. Their outrage was directed at the mindset that it is fine for a boy to ask the girl if she’s a virgin even though he may have had his share of fun-under-the-sun. So, what’s your opinion about this mindset that treats women as mere objects-to-be-owned in entirety? Is being a virgin, a stamp of piousness? And why only women are expected to go through this litmus test? Do share your views.
