“Harman has never played anything like Vicky Kartoos” – Sanamjit : Bollywood News

For young Sanamjit Singh Talwar, it could well have been a romantic beginning in celluloid. A much obsessed fan of Yash Chopra and Raj Kapoor, Sanam (as he is fondly called) had actually worked on a love story before turn of events made him sit down to write an action flick instead. From a 15 minutes short film, it was time to make a full fledged action drama Dishkiyaoon with Harman Baweja and Sunny Deol. However the romantic in him still feels that it won't be long before a musical romantic entertainer comes calling.

What has been your background before turning director with Dishkiyaoon?
(Smiles) I don't know whether it is a good thing or a bad thing but I have not done anything related to the world of films before Dishkiyaoon. I have never even assisted anyone and I think it has worked out very well. When I see other directors or colleagues, I feel that a stamp of other filmmakers has come on them. Thankfully I have not been influenced by anyone and hence bring in a fresh perspective.

So how fresh is Dishkiyaoon?
To begin with, it is not a borrowed script. It is as original as it gets. My basic nature doesn't allow me to pick up content from other films. As a viewer too I have always felt that whenever there is something on celluloid, it should have something original about it. Film woh honi chahiye jo pehle dekhi naa ho, dialogue woh jo sune na ho, visuals aise jo pehle screen par aaye na ho. Isliye jo dimaag mein aaya woh shoot kar liya. I am glad that people have reacted positively so far in all the screenings we have held.

One hears that Harman would be seen in a never before avtar?
Absolutely. It is a very different role and he has never played a character like 'Vicky Kartoos'. When we started shooting, he said to me that he would do whatever I wanted him to. He is a fantastic actor and was quick at shots. He used to just come on the sets and submit himself. We formed a great bond and our banter is on. We would go out and play a lot of tennis. His family is like my surrogate family in Mumbai.

How has been the association with Shilpa Shetty and Eros?
Fantastic. Shilpa has been a powerful producer and she never once asked me - 'Why?' I guess you don't get producers like that in today's time. During the shooting of the whole film, Shilpa never asked me about anything. As for Eros, it is always a pleasure for a filmmaker to start their journey with them as you get such good exposure, great promotion and wide release.
