Bhumi Pednekar impressed fans and critics with her power packed, award-winning performance in the 2017 blockbuster Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. As Jaya, the girl who fought for a toilet in her marital home, Bhumi has also inspired young fans to spread the life changing message that women need access to private sanitation and personal hygiene. Given the fact that Bhumi focuses on this important social message at every key exposure that she attends, the impact of her efforts continue to spark positive change.
A group of Bhumi’s fans visited a local municipal school in Mumbai today to discuss the necessity of hygiene and sanitation for young girls. The government school in Kurla is located in a heavily populated area. Access to toilets and personal hygiene for women is limited and general levels of hygiene are poor given overcrowding in big cities. In such a scenario, learning about hygiene and sanitation at schools, and the value of a toilet can make a huge difference to their lives. The fans spoke to the girl students at length and educated them about this.
Bhumi’s fans tweeted the picture to her saying, “.@psbhumi aapki film #Toilet se inspire hoke humne Mumbai ke ek government school mein hygiene aur sanitation ke baarein mein girls students ko sikhaya!! Guys tweet RT karo!! #WomensDay #InternationalWomensDay”
Bhumi was very touched by the gesture and thanked her fans profusely, after they also shared photographs of their visit. She tweeted back saying, “This is just so lovely. What an amazing way to celebrate #WomensDay. Touched and super overwhelmed by this gesture. Keep empowering them and keep spreading the message. Hugs and kisses all the way ❤???? #InternationalWomensDay”.
