EXCLUSIVE: Ram Gopal Varma says Arnab – The News Prostitute would be a docu-drama, plans to release by November

A day ago, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, popularly known for making Satya, Company, Sarkar franchise among others, announced that he will be making a film on news anchor and editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami. In a series of tweets, he explained why he chose this subject and how the news anchor has been manipulating the viewers. He also mentioned how the coverage of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has been sensationalized.

Speaking EXCLUSIVELY to Bollywood Hungama, Ram Gopal Varma revealed that the film Arnab – The News Prostitute will be a docu-drama. He is yet to decide which platform it will release on. “I am pretty much clear how I want to do it but it is docu-drama. It is not like a feature film or a biopic. It’s like that. I think and hoping to release the film by November – early November is what I am targeting. Let’s see some OTT or something. Any which ways, we have no idea when the theatres will reopen,” he said.

When further asked what he wants to tell from this film, Ram Gopal Varma added, “The tactics he uses to manipulate the psychology of the viewers is what I want to expose. For which, I will take case studies of what is done – probably including the Sushant Singh Rajput case for instance because it is the latest topic. Then, I want to see the analysis of it, kind of deceptive analysis of Arnab Goswami’s mind, and how he completely manipulates it and what he wants to protect. The audience can see and they saw him do that. The film will explain in a dramatic way and how it is done. I am pretty much clear how I want to do it but it is docu-drama. It is not like a feature film or a biopic. It’s like that.”

"This man has exhausted every kind of vilest word in the dictionary. If I don't use a strong word, I thought it won't bring justice to it which is the reason why I wanted a very strong word," he added.

When asked if any kind of allegations are levelled against him, he said, "That is fine. Anyone can make any kind of allegations against anyone. I can answer if I am given an opportunity to."

On Monday, August 3, Varma tweeted, “Was shocked to see #ArnabGoswami talking about Bollywood in such a horrible way ..He calls it the dirtiest industry ever with criminal connections ,it’s full of Rapists, gangsters, sexual exploiters and what not&It beats me in what dumb way #ArnabGoswami can combine the deaths of Divya Bharthi,Jiah khan, Sridevi and Sushant into one case and claim that the murderer is Bollywood..incidentally the 4 deaths happened over a span of nearly 25 years."

“And in all the four cases of Divya,Jiah,Sridevi and Sushant there were completely different people and circumstances ..But in Arnab’s mind they are all one and had been killed by an entity called Bollywood,” he added.

He further said, “That guy #ArnabGoswami is banking on the fact that we don’t have the spine and as long as he runs the debate he will anyway make sure no one's point of view is ever heard and that’s his modus operandi anyway.”

“I for one am feeling very strongly about this and I decided to make a film on #ArnabGoswami in which I will take the clothes off his facade and make him naked exposing the lengths and breadths of all his vital corrupt stats,” the filmmaker further added.

He went onto further say that he is working on a film. “ARNAB” THE NEWS PROSTITUTE. After extensively studying him I mulled on whether the tagline should be The News Pimp or The News Prostitute though both are relevant I finally settled on a prostitute for its sound. I know I used some hard language in these tweets to describe him but I took a cue of them from our very own dirty-mouthed #ArnabGoswamy,” he signed off.
