“Ek Thi Daayan has different shades of horror” – Emraan Hashmi

Though there are three women around him in Ek Thi Daayan, Emraan Hashmi is really the driving force. So in the film, can audience expect a suspense drama in the offing with a touch of horror and thrill?

“I think there are lots of different shades of horror that exist with quite a few sub genres,” he says. “I would like to say that if you use Hollywood or Korean films as a benchmark, then Ek Thi Daayan brings in a fair amount of both. There would be elements of blood or gore as in Evil Dead and also psychological horror elements as seen in The Omen or The Exorcist,” he adds.

With a setting like this, one can well expect Konkona Sen Sharma to be quite comfortable given her prior acting experience. Moreover, even Kalki Koechlin has a theatre background that allows her to instantly adapt to the settings. However, the junior-most in the crowd is the beautiful Huma Qureshi. So did Emraan have to step in to mentor her?

Laughs Emraan, “Arrey kahaan, I don’t mentor anyone. When I am on the sets, I just give my opinion and that’s about it. Moreover, Huma is someone who holds her own. She is intelligent and doesn’t require my mentoring. For our film, she knew the script and the character inside out. We just played our scenes out and as a team we improvised and tried different options.”

Well, it was one such improvisation that resulted in Emraan declaring ‘I am a Tiger on the bed’ in front of Huma during a romantic moment in the film. That in fact further brings Emraan into the zone that has paid him dividends time and again.

On the other hand, Kalki Koechlin seems to be in ‘ishq’ with him, if the promos are any indication, even as she goes about humming ‘Yaaram’. With nothing much revealed yet about Konkona Sen Sharma though, there is an element of mystery which is prevailing in Ek Thi Daayan.

So what’s the kind of chemistry that Emraan shares with the three women here?

“Honestly, I can’t reveal much. All I can say though is that there is an underlining chemistry that entails with all three girls. There are quite a few good moments with songs playing an important part of the narrative, not to mention a love story that runs through the film”, says Emraan.

We look forward to this love story with horror to unfold as Ek Thi Daayan releases worldwide on April 18.
