The Costume Institute Gala or Met Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art marks one of the most sought-after soirées of the year on the fashion fundraising calendar. Also known as the "Oscars of the East Coast”, it is with the fashion industry’s upper crust intent on making a sartorial and poignant point. This year’s theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Imagination with derivatives from the Vatican and presence of designs influenced by religion. Deepika Padukone - Ravishing in Red?

Styled by Shaleena Nathani, Deepika picked out a red thigh-high slit Prabal Gurung one shoulder gown. Earrings from Tasaki were her only accessories of choice.

Hairstylist Harry Josh styled Deepika’s long locks into a pseudo wet and slick pulled back way.

Makeup artist Sandhya Shekar gave her defined eyebrows and eyes, bright lips and highlighted cheekbones.

Bollywood Hungama Style Take – Deepika Padukone

According to the designer, Prabal Gurung, Deepika’s gown is inspired by the choice robes of holy cardinals, both in structure and hue. It is the cardinal virtues of prudence, courage, temperance and justice that Deepika aimed to beautifully uphold. Giving this sensibility a twist with a contemporary thigh-high slit, such was Deepika and her interpretation of the Met Gala theme! With major elements adhering to the hue missing from her style, Deepika's look was uninspiring and lacklustre!

The Met Gala 2018 witnessed the presence of superstar Rihanna, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and designer Donatella Versace, chosen by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to co-chair the event.
