First of all, heartiest congratulations for your brilliant work in Padmaavat. It must have been quite a struggle for you and the entire team in getting the film to theatres. For millions of your fans and admirers, it was a long-ending wait but eventually, the wait was worth it. The film was a fabulous saga and although Ranveer Singh walked away with a lot of accolades, one can’t deny the fact that the film would have been nothing without your towering performance. Your descent towards the fire in the climax scene induced goosebumps across the country (in states where it released). You have delivered so many amazing performances that one accepts nothing but the best. And thankfully, you ensured that with Padmaavat, the high hopes were met.
However, it’s been now almost two months since Padmaavat hit theatres. And we are wondering which would be your next flick. I am aware that you were supposed to start work on Vishal Bhardwaj’s next, co-starring Irrfan Khan. But sadly your back pain and Irrfan Khan’s sudden illness has pushed forward the film indefinitely. Again, it’s been a month since this postponement was unveiled and we don’t know yet which would be your next flick. And honestly speaking, your fans have been quite restless as a result.
And why not? All the other A-listers have something or the other lined up. Priyanka Chopra too hasn’t yet announced her next Bollywood film but she’s been working in the West. You, on the other hand, have done just two Hindi films in the last 2 years. In between, you surprised many by landing a plum role in the Hollywood flick xXx: Return Of Xander Cage and must say, it was a pleasure to see you kicking butt, especially in the climax. So in totality, it’s three films in around two years. But your fans have been wondering when they will finally get to see you next on the big screen.
I do understand your dilemma however. You are in the top league of actresses and arguably, the biggest of them all. You have had an envious track record. Most of the films that you have done were big-budget entertainers or had an all-India reach and moreover, you had a significant part to play. You have refused to take up a role where you don’t have much to do or have a lesser or insignificant screen time. Sadly, still many roles are not being written which center around women and at the same time are big flicks. And if such roles are written, the reach is limited. Things worked very well in this regard with Piku, where the film was named on your character and at the same time, it had a great content due to which it did extremely well. But then how many such stories are there? Even if we keep aside female-centric films, it’s rare to come up with a script where the female lead has as much to do as a male lead. Not everyone thinks like Sanjay Leela Bhansali who writes such beautiful roles for his ladies. And after working with him thrice, you must have tasted blood. There’s no way you could settle for anything that’s not too prominent. And rightly so!
However, the restlessness of your fans is also justified. In fact, if I am not wrong, this is the first time that you have no film lined up in your career. As per Vishal Bhardwaj, the film that he is supposed to do with you is postponed by a few months, but with Irrfan Khan not being able to do the film due to his illness, it has left your fan following bewildered and confused. Nobody knows for sure if this film is still on and if it is, then when it will go on floors.
This letter has not been written to put any pressure. It’s just to let you know that your fans love you like crazy and have been desperate to see you on screen. Hence, they deserve to know the exact picture. So I hope you recover fully from your back pain and announce your next, exciting project or update fans about the schedule for Vishal Bhardwaj’s flick. Trust me, the day you do that, it’ll be nothing short of a festival for many!
