The unit of Kunal Kohli’s Break Ke Baad in Mauritius turned into a scuba special. When members of the cast were not shooting, they were busy plunging into the deep-blue sea at the drop of a hat.
Says Kohli, “I’m a certified diver, so is my wife Ravina. In fact when she heard about how much fun the crew was having under-sea, Ravina flew down to Mauritius just to join us in taking the plunge. My leading man Imran is also a certified diver and even my leading lady Deepika Padukone has also been certified recently. So we were all a bunch of aqua-obsessed divers trying hard to tear ourselves away from the inviting sea and focus on work.”
Ironically, Kunal’s film has little do with the water. “I wanted to shoot in the beautiful heritage houses in Mauritius. The ocean and water have been done to death right from the time Sanjay Khan directed Chandi Sona in Mauritius. These houses were my main temptation to shoot in Mauritius. How was I to know that all of us would be so taken up with the water.”
The unit tried hard to stay focused above sea-level. But with Deepika being a new recruit into the pleasures of the plunge the battle to steer away from the water became doubly hard. Though Break Ke Baad is being shot on an island the film has no connection with underwater activities.
Kunal Kohli and his director Danish Aslam are now tempted to write something that requires the pair to show off their skills under water.
Kunal and Danish aren’t giving in. They know what’s happened to Hindi films that have been shot underwater.
