Boycott Bahubali 2 – The Conclusion because of Katappa? Rajamouli is outraged!

Boycott Bahubali 2 – The Conclusion because of Katappa? Rajamouli is outraged!

Sathyaraj, the senior actor who has attained an iconic status because of his portrayal of Katappa in Bahubali – The Beginning has run into trouble. Kannada Okkuta, an umbrella of Kannada organizations has cautioned not to release Bahubali – The Conclusion in Karnataka unless Mr Sathyaraj apologizes for his supposedly inflammatory remarks made on the contentious Cauvery dispute a few years back. Some people opposed the rerelease of Bahubali – The Beginning at a theatre in Market City Mall in Mahadevpura and threw ink on the manager of the theatre. The director of the film S S Rajamouli in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive interview with Faridoon Shahryar shared his sentiments on this sensitive issue and he also questioned the threats to boycott Bahubali – The Conclusion, nine years after Mr Sathyaraj made the comment.

Sir, there is a group that is threatening to boycott Bahubali – The Conclusion in Karnataka because of Mr Sathyaraj’s comments made a few years ago on the Cauvery dispute. What is the latest on that?
First of all it is very sad. Personally we don’t know much about the issue. We know it is a serious and sensitive issue. We don’t know what exactly happened. We don’t know what Mr Sathyaraj said. We have known him for 5 years. He is a very sweet, soft spoken guy. I can’t even imagine that he can speak so forcefully. I have just seen the video. I can’t understand the language but I can see that he is talking vehemently. I couldn’t imagine that he is the same guy that we worked with. He is a character actor in Bahubali, he is neither the director, producer or the hero. Whatever comments he made was done nine years back. After that 25-30 films have released in Karnataka. Some films that he produced released in Karnataka, Bahubali – The Beginning released. Apparently some film of his is still running. Obviously whatever he said angered the people of Karnataka but turning that anger onto Bahubali is not right.

Do you find it sad that the way filmmakers or stars are treated as soft target on a regular basis? Whatever happened with Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan, even Sanjay Leela Bhansali met with a very sad incident.
It has become a regular feature. Freedom of expression is a Constitutional fundamental right. People should b able to express whatever they want to. I think there should be some kind of balance to let people watch what they want to.
