Vidya Balan is back and how! The theatrical trailer of Begum Jaan has multiplied the buzz of the film to the peak. Starring Vidya Balan, Gauhar Khan, Ila Arun and many more talented faces, this film is directed by Srijit Mukherji. Bollywood Hungama covered a special ‘on-location’ shoot of the film in Patjhor, Jharkhand. Faridoon Shahryar (Content Head- Broadband) did some exclusive bytes with the cast of the film.

Vidya Balan, who’s playing the title character in the film, said this about her character in the film, “I think Begum Jaan personifies feminine power in various aspects. She is the most consummate woman I’ve ever played. For me, this character is extremely challenging, demanding and aggressive.”

Gauhar Khan, who rose to fame with her ‘Bigg Boss’ stint and was also recently seen doing a cameo in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, shared some details about her character. She said, “Bina nakhre wali ladki hai, dil se sochti hai. Ek baar dil laga diya, toh jaan bhi de sakti hai.”

Ila Arun will also be seen playing an important role in the film. As everyone knows, she’s ever young at heart. She had an interesting incident to share, “Main ageless hoon. Jab Bhutan gayi thi, ladko ne shirt khol di thi, mujhe bahut mazaa aaya tha.”

Pallavi Sharda, who recently was seen in a small-yet-important role in an Academy Award nominee Lion, opened up about her character in the film, “My character is considered as the head prostitute and is lucrative for the brothel. So, its really important playing that role with a shade of grey and it’s really interesting.”

Vivek Mushran, who last rocked as a freaky boss in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Tamasha, revealed that he was playing a character called ‘Master’, who empathizes with this whole brothel space and the women in it.

Last but not the least, Srijit Mukherji, the man behind the story, shared his views about the film. He said, “Begum Jaan is a story of common person’s light in terms of partition and it’s a story of a brothel (kotha).”

Story adapted from Srijit’s own Bengali film, Rahkahini, Begum Jaan is slated to release on 14th April 2017 and will be eyeing on various categories in National Awards this year.
