From Batti Gul Meter Chalu to Sui Dhaaga – Bollywood Is BACK at narrating the small-town stories!

en Bollywood News From Batti Gul Meter Chalu to Sui Dhaaga – Bollywood Is BACK at narrating the small-town stories!

The year 2018 is proving to be one of the best-ever as the Hindi film industry has already seen the release of as many as 13 hit films in a span of just 8 months. Unlike other years where the list of hit films was majorly dominated by superstars, this time around it is the content driven films which have done well at the Box-Office. The heartland stories have struck chord with the audience and that is majorly due to the relatable characters and premise. The base of Hindi film industry has slowly shifted from metro centric and NRI stories to the heartland stories, and the same has resulted in consistent success. With four months still to go, the industry has a series of films up for release which are set in the small towns of India. Whether they will be success or no depends on the screenplay, but most of the films from the list look promising. Here’s a look at few of the films up for release in the next couple of months:

From Batti Gul Meter Chalu to Sui Dhaaga - Bollywood Is BACK at narrating the small-town stories!

From Batti Gul Meter Chalu to Sui Dhaaga – Bollywood Is BACK at narrating the small-town stories!

Manmarziyaan:

Anurag Kashyap ventures into the romantic genre with Manmarziyaan starring Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. The film captures the nuances of characters from Punjab and knowing Kashyap’s fascination of getting the basics right, we would get to see the real representation of the Punjabi culture. The movie is slated to release on 14th September 2018.

Mitron:

Adaptation of successful Telugu film, Pelli Choopulu, Mitron is set in Gujarat and revolves around the lives of four friends. The slice of life film seems to be focusing on the Gujarati culture and is looking to explore the inherent talent of the Gujarati’s to come up with out of the box ideas for being a successful businessman. The movie stars Jacky Bhagnani in lead and the music has struck chord with the audience. It is slated to hit the big screen on 14th September 2018.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu:

After tackling the social issue of sanitation in Toilet - Ek Prem Katha, director Shree Narayan Singh comes up with another film on a social issue i.e. electricity titled Batti Gul Meter Chalu. The movie is set in a small town of Uttarakhand and stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead. Apart from the basic set up, the makers have also concentrated on getting the basic dialect of the region right. If the social issue is presented in a relatable manner, this can be yet another small town film that does wonders at the Box-Office. The movie is slated to release on 21st September 2018.

Sui Dhaaga:

After getting a sleeper hit in the form of Dum Laga Ke Haisha, director Sharat Katariya has come up with yet another heart wrenching tale in the form of Sui Dhaaga starring Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma in lead. The film produced by YRF is about the “Made In India” campaign and speaks about the journey of two characters from the hand-loom industry. The movie is set in Madhya Pradesh, and just like Batti Gul Meter Chalu, the makers of this film as well have researched on the dialect of locals in MP.

Loveratri:

The theatrical trailer of Loveratri gave us a glimpse about the colourful Gujarati Culture that exists in Baroda. And going by the trailer, the movie seems to be one of the very few Hindi films that don’t present Gujarati’s as a caricature having the typical accent. Although a major chunk of film is set in London, the makers have shot for a few pivotal sequences at Baroda, which would give us an insight about the lives of people in the city, which is one of the fastest developing cities of India. The movie marks the acting debut of Ayush Sharma and Warina Hussain. Produced by Salman Khan, Loveratri releases on 3rd October 2018.
