Ajay Devgn’s Raid almost always had three directors on the sets

Believe it or not but while Raid was being shot, there were invariably three directors who were always present on the sets. One may wonder how exactly, especially considering the fact that the film has Rajkumar Gupta as the designated director. Well, there isn’t anything scandalous here actually since the other two directors were Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla, who have also called the shots for their films in the past.

Chuckles a senior crew member, “That’s right. While for Gupta this is his fourth film after Aamir, No One Killed Jessica and Ghanchakkar, Ajay too has directed U, Me aur Hum in the past with Shivaay being his latest venture. As for Saurabh, he is actually the senior most amongst them all when it comes to wielding the megaphone. Not just has he acted in over 100 films, he has also directed as many as five films – Mudda, Chehraa, Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi, Pappu Can’t Dance Saala and I Am 24.”

Ajay Devgn's Raid almost always had three directors on the sets

No wonder, the fact was there to be noticed on the sets whenever both Ajay and Saurabh were shooting with Gupta calling the shots. That said, did it turn out to be the case of too many cooks coming together to create a dish?

“None of that sorts happened,” smiles Gupta, “If Ajay wants; he can direct any film he wants. However, he picks and chooses his assignments in that sense. Otherwise, he is content being an actor and trusts his director to deliver. Never once was there any interference from him when I was shooting for the film. Once he was on board with the written material and the script was approved, he was solely in the capacity of an actor. He is not the sort of person who would call the shots on the sets when another director has been assigned to do the job. Same holds true for Saurabh as well.”

Raid promises to be an engaging affair that pits Ajay against Saurabh and it is the confrontation between the two that is set to be the highlight of the film.

“Exactly, it was a pleasure to have them both in the same frame,” says Gupta, “Let’s not forget that both of them have over 100 films each to their credit and have been a part of the industry for over 25 years already. With such experienced actors around me, I was blessed. Add to that the kind of story that I had to my disposal and making Raid turned out to be a special experience indeed.”

We would love to see how it all translates on the big screen once the film arrives this Friday.
