1. Kangana Ranaut – Hrithik Roshan controversy
It started in 2016 and had more twists and turns than an Abbas Mustan film. The controversy took a new turn this year when Hrithik Roshan, for the first time, spoke about it in front on media and what can we say! It created furor! But what was intriguing is that the entire controversy broke out right before the release of Kangana starrer Simran yet it failed to save the film’s downfall. We hope Kangana has learnt the lesson and will not repeat this in her next films! Because the audience may neither care for it nor fall for it.
2. Nepotism – the word invented by Kangana in Bollywood
If the last one was timed appropriately with the release of Simran, this was timed perfectly with the release of Rangoon. Before the film, Kangana appeared for the first time on Koffee With Karan and had called the host of the show Karan Johar as the flag-bearer of nepotism. It continued when Varun Dhawan once again mentioned the word during an award ceremony and we couldn’t hear the end of memes that followed! Yet the obsession over Jhanvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Sara Ali Khan and the latest Taimur Ali Khan is a proof that Nepotism will stay and the audiences have now probably reached a stage where they don’t care about the word either!
3. KRK returning to Twitter
Well, he was kicked out of Twitter! That means KRK has lost whatever authenticity he had! There was a time when his tweets created outrage. Remember when he had posted about the alleged bribing during the Diwali clash of Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil? But post his controversy with Vikram Bhatt, KRK had to pay a heavy price when he was thrown out of the platform. Considering that he has lost integrity and in the process also had to face a really drastic step from the social media platform, we doubt if the audience will care much for his words anymore. What do you guys think?
4. The END of honeymoon phase with the stars
There was a time when a star’s name could sell a film irrespective of what the film offered. But recent cases that showcase the success of Jolly LLB 2 or a Shubh Mangal Savdhaan and the collapse of films like Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal, have proved that the audiences will not care for big starrers if the film doesn’t have sailable content. And the success of Baahubali proves that if they like something language isn’t a barrier either. Hence, we believe that as we proceed to a new year, a gradual change has been observed in case of audiences giving precedence to script over stars or star value.
5. Priyanka Chopra signing another Hollywood film
From Gustakhiyaan to Rakesh Sharma biopic to many other Bollywood films, Priyanka Chopra was said to be a part of many Bollywood projects. Media reports about PC returning to India often were accompanied by snippets of the actress gearing up to announce her next Bollywood film. But a year has passed and we are still awaiting an announcement, In the meanwhile, she has already signed three Hollywood films. So as we continue to believe rumours of her next Bollywood film, let’s hope 2018 gets to see Priyanka doing an interesting Hindi film too besides all her Hollywood projects.
Whether it is Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan or now Karan Johar and Tusshar Kapoor – it has become quite frequent amongst Bollywood stars to take forward their legacy with the help of surrogacy. The medical term that came under the scanner too for its ‘child born out of wedlock’ concept has now become a common phenomenon amongst Bollywood celebrities and we believe any surrogacy news in the future will not overpower the joy and importance of seeing a star celebrating the arrival of the new member in their family.
7. People taking offense to the minutest of change in Bollywood
Well how many times in 2017 have you heard about activists taking it upon themselves to revolt against the content of a certain film or even its title? This kind of retaliation has become quite frequent and reports of many films have started going unnoticed. It is possible that people may be saturated with the constant buzz in the media surrounding the same and hence the indifference.
8. Sunny Leone’s name being dragged in a controversy
Sunny Leone’s name has become sort of synonymous with controversies. The major outrage in Karnataka over the actress performing at a plush five star has only further asserted that even the actress’ performance in a private party can trigger a scandal. Whether it is Navratri themed condom ads or her bold dressing sense, the audience had started taking these controversy reports in their stride. May be they think it is too trivial to react!
9. Pahlaj Nihalani making a sleazy film after Julie 2
The audiences have showcased their support time and again to filmmakers when Pahlaj Nihalani made rules stringent when it comes to providing censor certification to films, especially when it came to sex and violence. So when he decided to come on board as one of the producers for the sleaze fest Julie 2, audiences were quite taken aback by his decision. No matter how much he tried to justify his actions, the audiences neither reacted to it nor did they support his film. Did they think he was a hypocrite? Well audiences are the right ones to answer it.
10. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan’s case
Yes he released two films this year which included Hind Ka Napak Ko Jawab and Jattu Engineer. But that wasn’t all. The Dera Sacha Sauda Chief however got embroiled in a legal controversy and was accused of rape. He was arrested and it resulted in the Chief’s followers resorting to violence in certain parts of the country. Soon the matter died down after he was convicted of those charges and while the case continued to be in news until it led to various revelations like about his alleged affair with his ‘adopted’ daughter and others, the matter died a slow death. We wonder if any twist in the case will generate any more interest in the audiences who have already forgotten about it.
