2 Years after ending engagement with Sonam Kapoor’s cousin, Sikander Kher commences shoot for The Zoya Factor with her

They say that life always comes back full circle. Today the shoot for Abhishek Sharma’s The Zoya Factor began with Sonam Kapoor in Mumbai. The movie is a screen adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s novel of the same name and stars Sanjay Kapoor and Sikander Kher. Sanjay plays father to Sonam and Sikander in the movie. Interestingly, Sonam and Sikander share a history as the actress had played a role in his engagement in 2016 (which was broken off a few months later).

Says a source, “On January 2016, Sikandar Kher and Priya Singh, Sonam Kapoor’s cousin, and Jasjit and Kavita Singh’s (Sonam’s mother Sunita’s sister) daughter, had got engaged in a star-studded affair, at the Singh’s sea-facing bungalow Rockdale (the same place where Sonam got married to Anand Ahuja this year) in Bandra. Apparently, it was Sonam who brought the couple together by convincing Priya to get married. But within a few months Sikander and Priya’s engagement was called off. While the entire family has maintained a dignified and discreet silence over the issue there were reports that the split happened due to compatibility issues and difference in their lifestyle – something never clarified by anybody.”

Much water has flowed under the bridge since then. The source adds, “Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher are very close friends and last year Sikander and Anil have worked together in the second season of 24. This year while Anupam could not attend Sonam’s wedding on May 8 as he was abroad, he shared a video of the actress wishing her. His wife Kirron Kher and Sikander attended Sonam’s wedding reception together at the Hotel Leela in Mumbai on May 10 so all’s well between the Kapoors and Khers now. They are all mature people who understand that heartbreaks and breakups are part of life as much as weddings and engagements and it is wonderful to see that everyone has moved on so positively together.”

The Zoya Factor is being shot in an apartment in Mumbai and will be picturised on Sanjay Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Sikander Kher for a week in its first schedule. Dulquer Salmaan, plays the male lead and will join the cast from Friday. Sonam plays an executive in an advertising agency, Zoya Singh Solanki who meets the Indian Cricket Team through her job as and ends up becoming their lucky charm for the 2011Cricket World Cup. Dulquer plays the cricket Captain of the Indian team.

Sikander Kher “I am playing Sonam’s brother in the film and Sanjay Kapoor plays our father. We did prep and workshops before the shoot started as that’s how Abhishek Sharma, the director, anyways works on his movies. I have shot with Anil Kapoor before and now Sanjay so now almost the entire family is done. This time I won’t be able to have a look for The Zoya Factor as I am finishing Robbie Grewal’s RAW right now and as both are at the same time, unfortunately I couldn’t change my look for The Zoya Factor.”

When we ask him about working with Sonam after his broken engagement with her cousin sister Priya Singh, he says firmly, “I am not getting into any discussion on that. All I can say, it’s all good. We are all grown up. Right now I just want to keep on working and moving forward.”
