The success of any film not only depends on its cast/brands attached to the project as well as its promotions and music, but also the hype it generates prior to its release. This week witnessed the release of three varied films — KOCHADAIIYAAN, HEROPANTI and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. While KOCHADAIIYAAN features one of India’s biggest stars, Rajinikanth, the second, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, enjoys an equally large fan following. Keeping this aspect in mind, the third release, HEROPANTI, featuring newcomers Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, certainly faces an uphill task of competing with the two releases.
However, HEROPANTI has opened very well — it has commenced on a 60% note — which can be termed a heroic start, since the film is pitted against two biggies and brands. On the other hand, KOCHADAIIYAAN has opened on a dull note in the Hindi belt, but has, expectedly, opened to packed houses in South, while X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has opened to a stunning 70% occupancy.
While the current trend suggests that HEROPANTI is well on its way to making a mark at the box-office, KOCHADAIIYAAN has suffered due to the postponement from the earlier date. Also, the animation films, produced in India, haven’t found whole-hearted mandate from the audience so far. However, KOCHADAIIYAAN is strong in merits and has the potential to grow over the weekend.
