After last week's box office underperformer ROCKY HANDSOME, this week we see the release of the Kareena Kapoor Khan - Arjun Kapoor starrer KI & KA that has been directed by R. Balki. While the film that deals with gender role reversals in a relationship has been a much talked about topic, the question of the hour is, will the hype be converted into paying theatre footfalls, especially considering the fact that R. Balki films usually features an offbeat storyline.
Reports suggest that KI & KA has opened on a rather sluggish note with occupancy rate being pegged at 20% during morning shows. However, the film that has received good reviews for its unconventional story and good performances is expected to fare better with word of mouth. On the other hand, the Hollywood release KUNG FU PANDA 3 enjoyed a slightly better occupancy rate, but the film that caters mainly to kids does not pose as much threat to the Bollywood release.
On the whole, being a somewhat solo release, with a little competition coming from KUNG FU PANDA 3, the business of KI & KA might see a drastic rise in overall collections over evening and night shows, especially in multiplex dominated territories.
