A while back we had reported that the Akshay Kumar – Bhumi Pednekar starrer Toilet – Ek Prem Katha was all set to hit screens in China on May 8. Titled Toilet Hero for the Chinese market the film witnessed one of the widest releases for a Bollywood movie in this market hitting a staggering 11,500 screen with nearly 56,000 shows daily. In this box office analysis we take a look at the opening day (Day 1) collections of Toilet – Ek Prem Katha at the China box office.
Not surprisingly, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha that did rather well in the domestic market has opened with a bang in China as well. In fact, on Day 1 Toilet Hero as it is titled in China has managed to rake in a massive USD 2.36 million [Rs. 15.93 cr]. Though this is considerably lower than the opening day business of the Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi Medium that had collected USD 3.39 million [Rs. 22.05 cr] the Day 1 collections of Toilet Hero at the China box office do manage to surpass the first day collections of other previous releases like Bajrangi Bhaijaan that had collected USD 2.25 million [Rs. 14.63 cr] and Dangal that had collected USD 2.27 million [Rs. 14.67 cr] in this market.
Currently given the audience appreciation Toilet – Ek Prem Katha might just see an increase in the number of shows per day going up to 58,000 a day. If that wasn’t all another interesting fact about the release of Toile Hero at the China box office is that the film enjoys a much bigger release as compared to previous releases like Hindi Medium and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
