Akshay Kumar's Toilet - Ek Prem Katha has ended its theatrical run at Rs. 134.22 crore. On the other hand Varun Dhawan's Judwaa 2 has entered its third week and currently stands at Rs. 127.56 crore after bringing in Rs. 1.72 crore on its third Friday.
This has turned out to be a strong hold indeed for the David Dhawan directed film as the numbers are bigger than what other super hits of 2017, Jolly LLB 2 and Varun Dhawan's own Badrinath Ki Dulhania, had collected on their third Friday.
With the margin between the two biggies reduced to less than seven crore, it doesn't seem like a photo finish situation anymore since Judwaa 2 should eventually go past Toilet - Ek Prem Katha within its third week itself. The pace at which the film is going currently, it is expected that 5 crore more would come in before the close of the weekend. That should bring the overall numbers of the family entertainer in the vicinity of Rs. 132.50 crore.
From there, less than Rs. 2 crore would need to come for the film in order to surpass Toilet - Ek Prem Katha. Now even if just Rs. 60 lakhs come on Monday (which would be a drop of more than 50% when compared to Friday) and then collections stay same till Wednesday, the milestone would be met.
In any case, Thursday would be a dull day in theatres due to Diwali day and also the fact that Secret Superstar arrives on this day. From Friday it would be time for Golmaal Again and hence shows for Judwaa 2 would be curtailed in a major way. Nonetheless, numbers that come in the fourth week would be just academic and Judwaa 2 would have already entered record books by then!
For Sajid Nadiadwala, Judwaa 2 has now emerged as a major success 20 years after he made Judwaa with Salman Khan and the film's Superhit status further reaffirms the status of Nadiadwala Grandson as a production house to reckon with. As for Fox, they are enjoying a good run as a corporate partner for many a Bollywood biggie and one looks forward to many more collaborations in months to come.
As for Akshay Kumar, he anyways has two Super hits to his credit this year (the other being Jolly LLB 2) and now he is already gearing up for his biggest film till date - 2.0 - which should set records of its own.
