The third instalment in the Yamla Pagla Deewana franchise released a while back. The film which marked the return of the three Deols viz. Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and their father Dharmendra opened to a rather tepid response from the audience and critics. However, despite the fact that the film which faced competition from new and previous releases did not meet expectations at the box office window, the makers of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se did managed to make a profit.
In this box office analysis we take a look at the economics of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se to gain a better understanding of how exactly the film proved to be a profitable venture for the Deols. Made on the budget of Rs. 28 cr, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se managed to draw in an estimated Rs. 11 cr at the box office window, from which the distributors of the film earned Rs. 4.95 cr. Coupled with this was the earning from the overseas distribution of the film amounting to Rs. 0.95 cr. Though, the Deols earned paltry sums from the distribution of the film, they managed to draw in massive Rs. 28 cr from the sale of the satellite rights of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se which covered the production cost of the film. If that wasn’t all, digital and music rights of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se fetched its makers a further Rs. 5 cr and Rs. 3 cr respectively.
The earnings from the distribution, both domestic and overseas coupled with the revenue from the sale of satellite, digital and music rights of the film earned the Deols a whopping Rs. 41.90 cr. When, compared to the initial cost of production valued at Rs. 28 cr leaves a near Rs. 13.90 cr as pure profit with a 49.63% Return on Investment.
