Box Office: Te3n is Amitabh Bachchan’s lowest since Department, DLKK is out in one week

By Joginder Tuteja

Of late, Amitabh Bachchan has done some really interesting films and that too across genres. Wazir, Piku, Shamitabh, Bhoothnath Returns, Satyagraha - The Box Office verdict of these films may have varied but no one can deny the fact that the legendary actor has chosen varied subjects for each of his films. Moreover, it has also been widely acknowledged by one and all that he is reinventing himself as an actor film after film, the National Award winning performance in Piku being a testimony to that.

Hence the reason why it was surprising to see Te3n turning out to be quite similar to Wazir in terms of the premise, genre, situations and the motive of the central protagonist, played by Amitabh Bachchan. Moreover, though the promo was interesting, there was practically nothing much that happened in terms of promotion - both quantitatively as well as qualitatively. That reflected in the opening of this Ribhu Dasgupta film and while collections did improve on Saturday, Sunday was just about similar and fall on Monday followed by some static collections during rest of the week closed the deal for it.

As a result, just Rs. 16.34 crore* came in Week One for Te3N. Such low have been the collections of the film that they are Amitabh Bachchan's lowest since Department [2012], which was a major flop back then. This is how the actor's films have fared since then in terms of lifetime collections:

Department - Rs. 11.79 crore
Satyagraha - Rs. 63.74 crore
Bhoothnath Returns - Rs. 39.54 crore
Shamitabh - Rs. 22.46 crore
Piku - Rs. 79.77 crore
Wazir - Rs. 41.02 crore
Te3n - Rs. 16.34 crore* (still running)

It can be seen that the collections of Te3n are an aberration (along with Shamitabh) in an otherwise healthy run for Amitabh Bachchan films; what with even Wazir going past the 40 crore mark. With Pink, Sarkaar 3 and Aankhen 2 as his next bunch of releases, there is a lot more in the offering from the man.

As for Do Lafzon Ki Kahani, it has could never rise at the Box Office, what with the Week One billing of just Rs. 5.54 crore*. The film isn't expected to collect anything substantial from this point on. A major flop.
