Back in 2012 we saw Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt make her big Bollywood debut with the Karan Johar film Student of the Year. Featuring in the film alongside Alia were also Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra who like the actress were making their debuts as well. Not surprisingly, the film which came as breath of fresh air six years ago was well received by the audience propelling not just the lead actor but Alia as well into the limelight. Now six years on and with 10 films under her belt Alia has arrived! In fact, looking at Alia’s track record almost all her releases barring a couple have managed to cross the Rs. 50 cr mark at the box office. With over Rs. 719.47 cr from just 10 releases Alia has averaged near Rs. 72 cr per release which in itself is definitely a feat. But looking closer one realizes that though Highway and Shaandaar remain as the actress’ lowest grossing films with just Rs. 30 cr and Rs. 43.13 cr respectively Alia has still managed to feature as one of the most bankable actors. If that wasn’t enough, another fact that comes to light is that most of Alia’s films have featured actors from the younger crop from Varun Dhawan to Sidharth Malhotra, and Arjun Kapoor to Vicky Kaushal with exceptions being films with Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor in the form of Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab, Shaandaar. Interestingly, in the past six years Alia Bhatt has managed to feature in 10 films averaging two releases and Rs. 140 cr per year at the box office.
When compared to other leading actresses Alia Bhatt ranks 9th on the list of top grossing female celebrities. While preceding Alia are others like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez and Sonakshi Sinha a point to be noted is that unlike Alia the others have a minimum of 15 releases behind them. Given the current scenario and the fact that Alia Bhatt has become of the most sought after actors from the younger lot it will certainly come as no surprise if a couple of years later Alia featured among the top 5 on this same list.
