Box Office: Padmaavat loses out on approx. 45-50 cr. due to no-screening in few states

Prior to the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat we had reported that the film which was facing issues with its release was going in for release already facing a deficit in collections due to its non-release in certain regions. However, despite this, Padmaavat has been doing brisk business at the domestic box office starting 2018 on a positive note.

Now after a week’s run, Padmaavat has managed to rake in a massive Rs. 166.50 cr., at the domestic box office. However, had the release of the film been a smooth one across India, the Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer would have comfortably been able to cross the Rs. 200 cr. mark by now. In fact, looking at the release pattern of Padmaavat, the film lost out on approximately Rs. 50 + cr. due to its non-screening and protests surrounding it. Estimated, had Padmaavat released in the regions of Central India and Rajasthan the makers of the film could well have earned approximately Rs. 20-25 cr. more. Similarly, since the film did not see a smooth release in Gujarat, the makers of the film have lost out on approximately Rs. 15-20 cr. worth of business.

Though the current collections of Padmaavat that are pegged at Rs. 166.50 cr. isn’t a small feat, the fact still remains that the film which could have entered the Rs. 200 crore club within the first week will take a little longer to do so now.
