Akshay Kumar has made a rather brave choice by acting in a film which talks about menstruation and hygiene. After making social drama like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, he is back with Pad Man, a film conceptualised and co-produced by his wife Twinkle Khanna’s Mrs Funnybones Movies. While the first day collection of the film was Rs. 10.26 crores and it grew steadily over the weekend as it garnered Rs 13.68 crores on Saturday and Rs. 16.11 crores on Sunday. The total weekend collection is Rs. 40.05 crores.
Pad Man though is promising and would stand the test of chance at the domestic box office, according to the trade analysts, it should be noted that it is Akshay’s 12th highest weekend so far. Well, the highest weekend is Singh Is Blingg with Rs. 54.55 crores and the lowest is Anushka Sharma starrer Patiala House with Rs 15.25 crore. Looks like though Pad Man has had an average start, it is possible that it would do well in subsequent weeks, thanks to the strong word of mouth. Though the film delivers high on content and emotions, looks like people in hinterlands are still a bit hesitant to watch a movie which touches on the taboo topic on menstruation.
