Munna Michael had a rather low weekend as only Rs. 21.67 crore came in. For a film with strong youth quotient favoring it, good publicity, excellent release and impressive production values, one expected a much bigger number to come in. As a matter of fact at least Rs. 30 crore were on the cards and that would have given this Tiger Shroff and Nawazuddin Siddiqui film a fair chance to enjoy reasonable stay in theaters. However, and has been the case with quite a few films that have released in the last few months, even Munna Michael has seen an underwhelming response from the audience and that has kept the collections low.
In fact Tiger Shroff and Sabbir Khan have seen much better days as an actor-director combo since their first film together, Heropanti, had seen a good trend on a comparatively much smaller release and brought in Rs. 21.33 crore. Later, their Baaghi had hit it out of the park to collect Rs. 38.58 crore over the weekend. In case of Munna Michael the collections are not even close to that and as a matter of fact the entire Week One collections too would struggle to reach this mark.
Second release of the week, Lipstick Under My Burkha, managed to find its target audience and its collections have come as a bit of a (pleasant) surprise. Other than the fact that it has managed to entice audience despite being a star-less affair, it has also found average-to-good-to-very good reviews going in its favour that is also helping further in word of mouth doing the trick. With Rs. 5.80 crore under its belt already, the film is now heading for a lifetime of over Rs. 10 crore which would be a fair number for this low budget affair.
