Kaabil has taken a decent start at the Box Office. It was expected that the film would open to double digit collections, though by the time it released there was added distance between the number of screens at which it arrived vis-a-vis the allocation that was done to Raees. That widened the distance between the two films. That said, the numbers still were fair enough as Rs. 10.43 crore more came in. The film has seen a mid-week release though it benefitted from the Republic Day holiday today due to which evening and night shows were helped.
The film now stands amongst the Top-5 opening day numbers of Hrithik Roshan:
Bang Bang - Rs. 27.54 crore
Agneepath - Rs. 23 crore
Krrish 3 - Rs. 19 crore
Kaabil - Rs. 10.43 crore
Kites - Rs. 10 crore
Mohenjo Daro - Rs. 8.87 crore
From this point on, it is going to be audience word of mouth that would have a huge role to play. From the critical acclaim perspective, this is one of the best responses ever for the Roshans [Rakesh and Hrithik] as well as director Sanjay Gupta. That has allowed them to gain from a platform which has been set up well. Moreover, this is a long weekend and collections today would have a major role to play in the lifetime numbers that are eventually gathered by Kaabil.
Of course competition is out there but then that was a conscious call taken by all involved, and hence it’s time for the makers to look forward to all the positive testimonials from the industry as well as audience word of mouth to come into play. There are two open weeks till Jolly LLB 2 arrives [10th February] and hence, Kaabil has good time in hand to make most of the content that it has to offer to the audience.
