Box Office: Gold and Satyameva Jayate break the RECORD set by Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani on a CLASH

By Joginder Tuteja

15th August 2018 would go down as a landmark day in the history of Bollywood. Though there have been quite a few clashes in the past, majority of these have been one sides. However, there have been few where both films have turned out to be successful. Still, hardly a couple of such clashes have resulted in over Rs. 30 crore coming on a single day whereas rest have all been between Rs. 20-25 crore at best.

Box Office Gold and Satyameva Jayate break the RECORD set by Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani on a CLASH

Not anymore though as both Gold and Satyameva Jayate have turned out to be ultra-huge on their release, and their combined collections have resulted in an outstanding Rs. 45.77 crore coming in. Both films opened really well and it was a carnival like atmosphere in theatres across the country, as the footfalls were steady in multiplexes as well as single screens, and that too in A, B as well as C centres.

Let's take a look at how numbers generated on this mega clash between the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham/Manoj Bajpayee starrers compares with the other biggies that came on the same day:

Gold [Rs. 25.25 crore] and Satyameva Jayate [Rs. 20.52 crore] - Rs. 45.77 crore

Dilwale [Rs. 21 crore] and Bajirao Mastani [Rs. 12.80 crore] - Rs. 33.80 crore

Raees [Rs. 20.42 crore] and Kaabil [Rs. 10.43 crore] - Rs. 30.85 crore

Jab Tak Hai Jaan [Rs. 15.23 crore] and Son of Sardaar [Rs. 10.72 crore] - Rs. 25.95 crore

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil [Rs. 13.30 crore] and Shivaay [Rs. 10.24 crore] - Rs. 23.54 crore

Rustom [Rs. 14.11 crore] and Mohenjo Daro [Rs. 8.87 crore] - Rs. 22.98 crore

Each of the films in the aforementioned clashes turned out to be successful with Mohenjo Daro been the only exception.

There have been some other clashes too that resulted in big numbers on a particular day. These are Golmaal Again v/s Secret Superstar and Bang Bang v/s Haider. However the numbers were pretty much lopsided and that too in favour of the first mentioned film, as a result of which these can hardly be termed as an advantageous position for either of the two films.
