The Nitesh Tiwari directed biopic Dangal starring Aamir Khan has set the box office register jingling since its release. In fact the film that released across 4300 screens in India managed to enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club in just three days, and has now breached the Rs. 150 cr mark in five days.
In this box office report we take a look at the box office collections of Dangal while comparing them to previous releases of 2016. Collecting Rs. 155.53 cr in five days, Dangal has now emerged as the second highest grosser of 2016. Though the film is still far off from overtaking the collections of the Salman Khan starrer Sultan that had collected Rs. 300.45 cr, Dangal does manage to surpass other releases like M. S. Dhoni - The Untold Story that collected Rs. 133.04 cr, Airlift that collected Rs. 128.1 cr, Rustom that collected Rs. 127.49 cr, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that collected Rs. 112.45 cr, Housefull 3 that collected Rs. 109.14 cr, Shivaay that collected Rs. 100.3 cr and even Fan that collected Rs. 84.1 cr.
However, with no new Bollywood releases in sight, Dangal looks set to enjoy an extended run in theatres unopposed. Coupled with this, the fact that Dangal is being declared tax free in certain territories will definitely boost the final overall box office collections of the film.
