In a span of three weeks, Dangal is heading towards the Rs. 360 crore milestone. On Tuesday, the film collected 4.03 crore more, hence bringing the total to Rs. 353.68 crore. With Rs. 6.5-7 crore more expected between today and tomorrow, the film would reach another landmark.
The film’s Blockbuster success has left many astounded. To think of it, the film was good in hype before the release, but not great. The opening too was the second highest of the year, after Sultan. As a matter of fact, even Aamir Khan had seen a better opening day in the form of Dhoom 3. Even when the film released, comparisons were being drawn around whether this was Aamir Khan’s greatest film, or if 3 Idiots continued to occupy that slot. Then there were comparisons with Sultan too since both films deal with wrestling. The opinion was divided over whether the film would go past the Rs. 300 crore mark or not.
No one, just no one ever thought that the film would come close to the Rs. 400 crore mark!
At maximum, a few predicted that the film would turn out to be the biggest grosser of all times, hence going past PK. There continued to be apprehensions though, even after the film enjoyed a record first week. After all, it [Rs. 197.53 crore] was still lesser than Sultan [Rs. 208.82] and the Salman Khan starrer had collected less than 100 crore more before ending its lifetime at Rs. 301.5 crore.
The real fun began though when Dangal collected around Rs. 115 crore more just in the second week itself. This turned out to be a game changer and soon enough, many a records started to tumble.
Today, Dangal is at a point where Rs. 360 crore is just a couple of days away, Rs. 375 crore is a certainty, Rs. 390 crore is a probability and Rs. 400 crore is a dream, albeit distant.
Are we in for history in the making?
