Salman Khan's Sultan had enjoyed a lifetime total of Rs. 301.5 crore. Now the manner in which Aamir Khan's Dangal is currently doing, the film is set to surpass this total quite comfortably within two weeks itself. On Sunday, the film broke all records and went on to collect Rs. 31.27 crore. Not just is it the biggest second Sunday ever, it is also bigger than the first day of any other 2016 release apart from Sultan [Rs. 36.54 crore]. The fact that it is bigger than the first day of even Dangal [Rs. 29.78 crore] conveys so much about the phenomenal word of mouth that the Aamir Khan starrer is enjoying.
This is how the film stands when compared with the lifetime collections of Top-5 All Time Blockbusters:
PK – Rs. 340.8 crore
Bajrangi Bhaijaan – Rs. 321 crore
Sultan – Rs. 301.5 crore
Dhoom 3 – Rs. 284 crore
Dangal – Rs. 270.47 crore (10 days)
The film is set to cross Dhoom 3 today and if not by tomorrow then definitely by Wednesday; Dangal would be the highest grosser of 2016. While a record second week is already in progress, considering the fact that the Nitesh Tiwari directed film has managed to find a very wide reach, it is pretty much on the cards that the third week would be record breaking as well.
There is no stopping Dangal and while it is now set to be the biggest All Time Blockbuster ever by eventually crossing Aamir's own PK, it would be interesting to see how much further does it go past the Rs. 350 crore mark.
