With every movie there has to be a controversy and controversy leads to more publicity, right? Shyam Benegal's Zubeidaa starring Manoj Bajpai, Karisma Kapoor & Rekha has faced a sharp protest and criticism in Rajasthan. The people of Rajasthan are opposing the portrayal of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, Hanumant Singh in the movie. To avoid disturbance and violence, police has been deployed at cinema theatres screening the movie. At one theatre in Jaipur, police had to resort to a mild lathi charge to disperse the mob. Though the film has been inspired by the life of Jodhpur Maharaja Hanumant Singh, Shyam Benegal has clarified that the storyline was completely fictional, written by Khalid Mohamed.
