Vivek, Ash dance in public

Satish Kaushik is in the news. For the right and wrong reasons!

First, the right reasons

[i] The promos of VAADA are looking hot. Yes, it’s one genre I haven’t attempted before. Believe me, it just doesn’t look like a Satish Kaushik film, he laughs. While VAADA is slated to hit the screens on December 24, another film starring him as an actor, AABRA KA DAABRA [a 3-D Plus film], will also hit the marquee on that particular date. Dheeraj Kumar, the maker of the film, tells me it’s India’s answer to HARRY POTTER.

[ii] Satish Kaushik has signed Priyanka Chopra for his next film, which will be produced by Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts Ltd. She liked the story immensely, Satish confides. The lead man, though unconfirmed while writing this piece, could well be Vivek Oberoi. Well, talks are still on Subhash-ji is doing all the talking. We haven’t signed him so far, he clarifies.

Wasn’t Saif Ali Khan supposed to enact the part initially? At a point of time, yes, his name did crop up, Satish admits, But there was no official dialogue with him. I haven’t even met him vis-?is the film in question, he answers.

Now the other side of the fence

Satish Kaushik is no longer directing Firoz A. Nadiadwala’s PHIR HERA PHERI, the sequel to HERA PHERI. In fact, writer Neeraj Vora has stepped in Satish’s shoes and is directing the film. Oh, I wasn’t aware of that [Neeraj Vora stepping in] He’s the right choice since he knows the script better, Satish sounds genuinely honest.

What went wrong? Nothing, he shoots back, It’s just that I’ve always believed in directing one film at a time. With VAADA due for release and MILENGE MILENGE [Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor] nearing completion, I wasn’t able to concentrate much on PHIR HERA PHERI. I couldn’t concentrate on one more film – the third one – simultaneously. So we mutually decided to part ways. There’s no bad blood. I am still open to the idea of directing a film for them some day.

PHIR HERA PHERI stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Bipasha Basu and Rimmi Sen in pivotal roles.
