Notwithstanding the not-as-expected box-office response to his last release OUT OF CONTROL, Vashu Bhagnani is all geared up to start not one, but four projects in the coming months.
I've decided to make four films in the next one-and-a-half years. That's on my agenda for 2004 and 2005, Vashu tells me. The films in question will be directed by Satish Kaushik, Khalid Mohamed, David Dhawan and Rajkumar Santoshi.
Vashu elaborates, The film Satish is directing is based on an original idea, it's not a remake. We hope to start working on it from January 1, New Year. Why January 1, any specific reason? Naye saal mein nayee film ka shubh-aarambh hona chahiye, he smiles.
Contrary to the general feeling, Vashu is going ahead with the Khalid Mohamed-directed flick RAJ, which was announced during the Diwali week. A lot of people dissuaded me from going ahead with Khalid's film after the poor response to TEHZEEB. But what if TEHZEEB had gone the KAL HO NAA HO way? You don't desert someone when someone is down. Hits and flops are a part of the business, Vashu states.
He continues, Khalid is working on the script of the film. Besides Arjun Rampal, the film will star one more hero. This film should roll once Khalid is through with a bound script.
The project with David will star big names, but the cast will be finalised in the new year, he adds. As for the Rajkumar Santoshi-directed project, Vashu says he's currently in negotiations with the director, but the project won't start before 2004-end.
And now for some breaking news! After releasing the four films, Vashu will take a six-month sabbatical from work there's an important reason for doing so. Vashu is planning to launch his son Jackie Bhagnani as an actor.
He's already done a course in acting, the proud father says, I've yet to decide about the genre of the film when I launch Jackie in 2006. The trends and times would be different in 2006, so you can't plan anything in 2003, right?
