The Aamir – Pooja ‘Pact’

Another news doing the rounds of the industry is that gutsy producer Pooja Bhatt is in talks with Aamir Khan to head the cast of her new film, which will be directed by Pooja herself. Reportedly, Pooja stumbled upon this interesting story and has approached Aamir for the role in question. The news also goes that Pooja has suggested that instead of charging his fee as an actor, Aamir could share the profits from the film once the film is ready. Pooja sounds alarmed as I question her about the new business venture. I am told that several stories are making the rounds of the industry and this is one of them. Trust me, there’s no truth to it. I’d love to work with Aamir, but I can’t afford his price. In fact, I’d complete my entire film in exactly half the amount that he seems to be charging these days, she laughs. Perhaps, that’s the reason why the revenue-sharing talk gathered momentum. That’s a sound business move, but I haven’t met Aamir for over two years now. Besides, the pace at which both of us work is a complete contrast, she divulges. Pooja is off to Pakistan on December 2 [her new film ROG is being premiered at the Kara Film Festival] and she quashes rumours that she’s in the process of producing a film in the neighbouring country, with a mix of Indian and Pakistani actors. I’d love to make a film in Pakistan, but there’s nothing on the cards yet, she swears. So what is she planning after ROG? I’ve two scripts in mind. Deepak Tijori will direct the first project; it’s a love story with three women and a guy. My father [Mahesh Bhatt] and Nilesh Mishra are jointly writing the script. We haven’t thought of the cast yet, she divulges. And the second project? It’s a coming of age kind of a movie, a musical. But, again, no stars have been finalized, not even the director, she states. Hey, what happens to CABARET with Mallika Sherawat that she was planning to start in January 2005? Does it figure on her list of priorities or not? That project is on hold for the time being. I need to concentrate on production first. I can’t sail in two boats simultaneously, she admits.
