Even as speculation continues in music circles about the reasons that could have led Super Cassettes to relinquish the rights of AKS and DIL CHAHTA HAI, music giant H.M.V. has stepped in the fray. The company has already bought the music rights of AKS and is currently believed to be negotiating for the rights of the second film as well. Harish Dayani, Vice-President of H.M.V., confirms the news We have indeed acquired the music rights of AKS. We found it a great opportunity to strengthen our ties with Jhamu Sugandh and Amitabh Bachchan. Besides, it is a promising film with an excellent set-up. But we are yet to take a decision on the second film. However, Dayani prefers to remain tight-lipped about the price paid for the music. Price has never been the criteria with H.M.V. It is a question of whom we are dealing with. If we are buying the music rights of a Yash Chopra film in the vicinity of Rs. 8 crores, we have no apprehensions of losing on it. But there could be another producer whom we hesitate to pay even Rs. 1 crore because we may not even break even, Dayani justifies his stand. On the other hand, H.M.V. seems to have picked up the rights of several Mithun starrers. After KHATRON KE KHILADI, the company recently acquired the rights of QAIDI and according to Dayani, the company will release the music of several Mithun starrers, scheduled for release in the next few months.
