Sunny’s confidence in Ahmed

Ahmed Khan is one lucky guy! Though the choreographer turned director hasn’t had any release so far [his directorial debut LAKEER opens this Friday], he’s already being chased by reputed producers to direct their films. While enterprising producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala has already assigned the directorial reins of his new project DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL to Ahmed, there’s talk that Sunny Deol has also signed Ahmed to direct his forthcoming home-production. “Sunny and I are keen to work with each other after LAKEER,” Ahmed divulges, “In fact, Sunny has suggested that we make an action flick, though we’ve yet to sit down and decide on the script. I guess, we’ll put our heads together once LAKEER releases.” Incidentally, Vashu Bhagnani was supposed to produce LAKEER initially, but when he decided against it, Sunny put Ahmed on to Vicky Kumar, who eventually produced the film. One would’ve expected Ahmed to make a musical, considering that he has choreographed hundreds of songs in such a short span. Instead, LAKEER is an emotional fare with doses of action, while DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is a light entertainer. Why hasn’t Ahmed attempted a musical yet? Replies Ahmed, “I intend making one next year. A.R. Rahman and I’ve discussed this; he’s hard-pressed for time currently. The musical that I intend making will have at least 13 songs, not merely 5-6 tracks, like what the trend is. A film like MOULIN ROUGE hasn’t been attempted here. To make a film on similar lines would be a challenge.” True!
