Somebody help out Sonali Bendre. For the larger part of her career she has tried every trick in the book (and the closet) to be Bollywood's sex goddess, all for a hit. And yet the elusive speck of success kept playing hookey with her till Sarfarosh last year. But then, that did not deter detractors from wagging their tongues. Don't mind, they said, but Sonali's only contribution to the film's success is romancing Aamir Khan in wet red chiffon, in a waterfall. At the most she's a reel life bimbette who can never carry out any other personna, they pouted. So, when Sona babie did a turnabout and played the homely and pretty Preeti in Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Saath-Saath Hain, she was only trying to prove her range as an 'actress'. HSSH clicked, and our golden gal wasted no time in declaring how the guys had simply l-o-o-o-ved her newfound gharelu image. So much so that these days her (male) fan mail was flooded with notes about how guys thought she was the girl to take home to their moms. Sounds impressive? Well, Bollywood producers are not impressed. Eversince Sonali went overboard with her coy Bharatiya naari image, tinsel town merchants started looking for new sex symbols to launch their ships. And realizing which way the cookie crumbles, Sona babie has quickly gone ahead and given a sexy photo shoot for a film glossy with one-time flame Sunil Shetty, to prove that she's lost none of the zing.
