‘Shukriya’ bowls top name

Inspired Movies’ SHUKRIYA may not boast of topnotch names [it stars Aftab Shivdasani and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles], but the film seems to be creating ripples. It’s a known fact that a majority of films find it difficult to attract buyers in today’s times. Even multi-hero projects made by reputed film-makers find it tough, sometimes till the last minute, to catch the fancy of the buyers. But the producers of SHUKRIYA must have opened champagne bottles soon after the screening of the rush-print. Reportedly, debutante director Anupam Sinha [brother of Anubhav Sinha] had been requesting eminent distributor Shyam Shroff to watch a preview of the film. Since the project didn’t seem exciting on face-value, the highly respected distributor kept evading the issue. Anupam didn’t give up easily and continued to pester Shroff to watch the film, going to the extent of telling him to walk out of the film mid-way if he didn’t like it. Shroff obliged and came for the preview, ek naye director ka dil rakhne ke liye, as Anupam puts it. But as the reels unfolded, Shroff found himself hooked on to the proceedings. And during the emotion-soaked climax, I could see his eyes all moist, the director divulges. Compliments flowed after the screening, but they weren’t mere hollow praises. For, Shroff not only acquired Mumbai or Delhi-U.P. territories of the film, but the all-India rights of this medium-budget flick instantaneously. Aftab himself can’t stop praising the film to the skies. SHUKRIYA should prove to be the best film of my career. It’s been the most satisfying experience, the young actor informs me. The other film Aftab is looking forward to is JAANE HOGA KYA, directed by Glenn-Ankush, music video directors turned feature film directors. Meanwhile, producers Ragini and Vibha will be releasing four films in four consecutive months – KAUN HAI JO SAPNO MEIN AAYA [July], SHUKRIYA [August], KUCH DIN KUCH PAL [September] and CHESS [October]. Incidentally, CHESS, which has been made in English, will be dubbed in Hindi language.
