Deepika Padukone may certainly be a name to reckon with in the industry however not many may know that a few years ago, Deepika suffered from depression. In fact in a bid to help others who face the same issues of depression, Deepika even started a foundation Live Love Laugh. Recently speaking at the national public awareness campaign about mental health in Delhi, Deepika broke down when it came to talking about depression.
Speaking at the event about realizing she suffered from depression, Deepika said, “I remember when about two years ago when my parents and sister were visiting me in Mumbai and were packing their bags to leave. I remember I was sitting on the bed and curled up and my mother said to me, ‘Are you OK?’ I said yeah, I am fine. She continued and said, ‘Is it work?’, again I said no, I am fine. She continued to ask me two of three times and I could feel myself choking and I broke down.”
Going on to thank her parents, and family for supporting her during her stages of depression Deepika in a tearery voice continued, “I want to say to my mother that if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here today. So thank you for helping me through this, my sister, my father, my friends and my family for helping me through this.”
Deepika Padukone, who spoke candidly about her struggle with depression, launched a national public awareness campaign about mental health on Monday called `Dobara Poocho’, the campaign aims to break the stigma around the issue and start conversations about mental health.
