Shahrukh explores new horizons

en Bollywood News Shahrukh explores new horizons

Last week, we did the news-break with regards to Sooraj R. Barjatya approaching Shahid Kapoor to enact the lead role in his next film. With Shahid away in Bangkok [he's shooting for the Abbas-Mustan-directed 36 CHINA TOWN currently] and Rajshris continuing to stay away from the media, procuring more info on the project is next to impossible. But here's the official statement from Shahid.

Excerpts from the conversation between Shahid and this writer, on the sets of 36 CHINA TOWN at Pathumthani, Bangkok, Thailand.

Taran Adarsh: Congrats on bagging such a prestigious announcement.

Shahid Kapoor: Thanks! Hey, how did you get to know of it? It's supposed to be kept under wraps It feels nice to be associated with such a prestigious banner. But let me clarify, I haven't signed on the dotted line yet. We've had serious discussions and I've agreed to do the film in principle.

Taran Adarsh: So what's the film all about?

Shahid Kapoor: It would be unfair to divulge anything at this stage. All I can say is that Sooraj-ji is making a love story this time. It's very much on the lines of MAINE PYAR KIYA, but it's not the same subject. It's an amazing concept, I am all charged up!

Taran Adarsh: You seem to have an interesting line up of films this year. Incidentally, John Matthew Matthan's film and DEEWANE HUE PAAGAL are scheduled to hit the screens on the same date, in the Diwali week.

Shahid Kapoor: I am aware you wrote about it, but ideally I'd prefer having one release in Diwali, with the second one coming at a latter date. But these things [release dates] are beyond an actor's control.

Taran Adarsh: Even otherwise, there seems like a deluge of Shahid Kapoor films this year.

Shahid Kapoor: Yes, besides John Matthew's film and DEEWANE HUE PAAGAL, LIFE HO TO AISI and MILENGE MILENGE should also hit the screens this year. 2005 is one crucial year you bet!

Taran Adarsh: LIFE HO TO AISI reminds me. A section of the media has reported that director Mahesh Manjrekar and you didn't see eye to eye during the making of the film, so much so that the songs were filmed under choreographer Ahmed Khan's supervision since you wanted it that way. Is it true?

Shahid Kapoor: That's the weirdest rumor I've ever heard! The least the media can do is verify facts before writing anything. LIFE HO TO AISI is one of my favorite assignments and Mahesh and I got along very well during the making of the film. As for Ahmed choreographing the songs, what's new about that? Don't choreographers choreograph the songs independently? Whether the director is present on the sets or not, it's the choreographer's call, isn't it? So why this hue and cry?
