The grapevine is abuzz with the news that Pankaj Kharbanda, business manager to Sanjay Dutt, Sushmita Sen and Preity Zinta, has turned producer and that his maiden venture will star his three star-clients.
Well, this news shouldnt raise eyebrows for the simple reason because most business managers (secretaries) have, at some time of their career, diversified to film production. Rakesh Nath (Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit), Jatin Rajguru (ex Karisma Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai), Bhaskar Shetty (Sunil Shetty) are three recent examples whove ventured into film production and have been balancing both the jobs pretty well too.
But Pankaj laughs off when we ask him about his production plans. Im amused. A section of the press has gone to the extent of stating that Im reviving my mentor, N.C. Sippys banner and that the project will star Sanju. Theres not an iota of truth in it. Film production is not my scene since the market fluctuates every week. What could be an attractive proposal today, may get outdated by the time the film is complete, he says.
After a pause, Pankaj adds, Ill always be indebted to N.C. Sippy and his two sons, Romu and Raj. Whatever little Ive achieved is all thanks to them. But its wrong to think that Im going to teach them what I learnt from them. Well said, Pankaj!
