Sardars don’t evoke amusement!

Several Sikhs gave a memorandum to Rangita Nandy, Chief executive of Pritish Nandy Communications and producer of movie Shabd, to remove the parts of the film that have displayed the Sikh community in poor light and have made fun of them. In the movie actor Zayed Khan keeps using the word Sardar as a substitute for a joke. In a scene to make the sad heroine laugh, he just says ‘one Sardar’ and both burst into laughter. The memorandum says, It hurts our self respect to find the word ‘Sardar’ used therein in a disrespectful manner. Rangita Nandy however maintains that the scenes were not meant to hurt any community’s sentiments and they are a part of the script. She also pointed out that the Central Board for Film Certification had cleared the film without any cuts, and if there has to be any change in the film, that will happen only after their permission and concurrence.
