Parambrata Chatterjee in a tribute to Gulzar

en Bollywood News Parambrata Chatterjee in a tribute to Gulzar

Parambrata has completed two Hindi films since Kahaani, one is Traffic the Hindi remake of the Malayalam drama-thriller directed by Rajesh Pillai.

The actor has also completed homage to the cinema of Gulzar called Yaara Silly Silly.

Says Parambrata, "It's directed by Subhash Sehgal who has edited Gulzar saab's films. It features me and Paoli Dam in a cute love story about two people in love who separate and meet again after many years. I liked the fact that it saluted the cinema of Gulzar Saab. It's complete."

Parambrata was supposed to be in Sujoy Ghosh's next film Durga Rani Singh.

Says Parambrata, "Sujoy said, 'You are on'. I was looking forward to working with him again. But the dates he wanted were committed elsewhere. I just couldn't free myself for his film."

Kahaani was a turning-point in Parambrata's career, though he isn't exactly clamouring to do Hindi films, as he is one of the three most saleable and coveted leading men of Bangla cinema, almost like a new-age Uttam Kumar, with Raima Sen his new-age Suchitra Sen in a number of films.

"Please don't say that loudly in Bengal. I might get lynched. No one can be another Uttam Kumar. But yes, I am happy to be doing a variety of roles in Bangla cinema and getting a chance to direct film also," says Parambrata happily.

Raima and Parambrata get along so well that all of Bengal have declared them a real-life pair.

Laughs Parambrata, "My girlfriend Ike Schouten laughs over my marriage rumours. Raima and I are so often together we end up spending more time in each other's company than with our family."

Parambrata and Ike have been "seeing" each other (a lot on Skype) for four years now. And still going strong. In fact Parambrata is about to fly off to Netherlands to be with Ike.

Says the actor, "I was invited to the London Film Festival on July 12 for the screening of two of my films Apur Panchali, a film where I actually like my performance, and Sold. But that was a time I had already committed to being with Ike. So I had to regrettably turn down the invitation."

His third directorial project Lorai opened to a terrific response. "It was a film based on the game of soccer with Prosenjeet in the lead. We shot it in the outdoors of Purulia. Directing Lorai made me realize how comfortable a job acting is. As an actor one is pampered and looked after. As a director one is exposed to ground-level practical hardships during filmmaking. Everything had to be taken care of by me. And since we were shooting a tough sporty outdoor film the practical considerations were multiplied. Lorai helped me to grow as a human being and an actor."
