Lets Catch Veerappan shelved?

Veerappan might be history in real life but not really in the reel life. Ram Gopal Varma had planned a film on the sandalwood smuggler and though the main inspiration for his film is no more, Ramu’s movie making plans remains undeterred. That’s because the film is not about the life and times of Veerappan, but just revolves around an incident relating him. The film titled Lets Catch Veerappan is based on a book written on Veerappan by journalist Sunaad Raghuram titled ‘The Untold Story’. A chapter in the book called ‘The Grand Plan’ narrates a true story about three people of which one man supplies food and other necessary stuff to the Veerappan troupe. The other two persuade him to reveal Veerappan’s whereabouts to the police and gain the reward that’s on his head. In the process of catching the smuggler, 43 people die. That’s the crux of this docu-drama devoid of songs. The film will star Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Aditya Srivastava, Prakash Raj while a new guy will play the role of Veerappan. Shimit Amin (of Ab Tak Chhappan fame) is directing the film. Incidentally Ram Gopal Varma directed a forest adventure film titled Jungle (2000) loosely inspired on Veerappan’s life.
