Renowned singer and music composer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika died of multiple organ failure on Saturday evening. Hazarika was in the ICU for the past four months. His condition was fluctuating and had deteriorated significantly in the last few days. He had become very weak. He was on ventilator and dialysis due to kidney failure. The 85 year old Padma Bhushan Award winner passed away at 4.37 p.m. at Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital.
Hazarika was undergoing treatment at the hospital since June 29, after he complained of breathlessness and since then he was confined to the hospital bed.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was one of the most important cultural figures of north-east India and was known for popularizing Assamese folk tunes. Hazarika's death has left millions of his fans shocked. Thousands of people across the country mourned the death of their beloved music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
