Rumour : The grapevine is abuzz that you've signed Aishwarya Rai to head the cast of a woman-oriented film, SINHASAN. We're told that Aishwarya was bowled over by the script and even expressed her keenness to produce the film in partnership with her brother. If true, could you tell us what the role and the film is all about? Kalpana Lajmi : The truth is that I had approached Ash with an interesting script sometime back for a film called SINHASAN. She took a great liking for the story and gave me her verbal endorsement, though there was absolutely no talk of her producing it. I found her to be a very forthcoming and attentive person. What also struck me was her self-confidence. I am looking forward to starting the film soon. The role in SINHASAN is beyond doubt a powerful role and I think it will be ideal for Aishwarya to experiment with a contemporary character after the classical and traditional role that she is playing in DEVDAS. I am currently waiting for the finance to be organised, after which I hope to start the film by June 2003.
