Jo Boleevokes protests in Punjab

The title of Rahul Rawail’s ‘Jo Bole So Nihaal’ had created unrest among the religious Sikh Communities in Punjab even before its release. Widespread protest marked the release of this Sunny Deol starrer yesterday in cinema halls across Punjab. The filmmakers insist and have also issued a statement saying that the film in no way hurts the Sikh sentiments. The protests started early Friday morning with the workers of Sikh organization blocking traffic, hurling stones and blocking screening in Jalandhar until police intervened. The show went on eventually but with a large police contingent deputed outside the hall. I am surprised, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Censor board has approved the film and so has the Akal Takht, which is the supreme body. I myself am a Sikh, so I will not try to hurt the sentiments of the community. Jo Bole So Nihaal is a war cry and I wonder how can anyone have a problem with that, says film’s director Rahul Rawail reacting to the whole incident.
