The lion is roaring again. Though Mukesh Bhatt wasn't at his vociferous best in the year gone, courtesy a hat trick of box office failures in the form of Dhokha (good movie), Awarapan (excellent) and Showbiz (below the mark), he is back to being his spirited best. Not that he was lying low in the months gone by, but one can clearly sense a revitalized Mukesh Bhatt when he speaks about Jannat which has taken a smash-hit opening all over the country. "Yes, that's true. Whether it is A, B or C center, Jannat has fetched a bumper response all over. At Vishesh Films, we are proud to have made a film which boasts of content, style, messaging and mainstream ingredients coming together. Success of Jannat has reaffirmed our belief to tell a new story with every film of ours." Current season being talked about most for the ongoing IPL matches, wasn't it a big gamble to arrive in the midst of the tournament which is now reaching its peak? "And to think about it, no other movie was able to make a dent at the box office, let alone being a super success", Mukesh Bhatt talks about some of the recent releases gone by here, "What Yash Raj Films-Akshay Kumar (Tashan) and Amitabh Bachchan-Shah Rukh Khan (Bhoothnath) couldn't do, Vishesh Films-Emraan Hashmi (Jannat) has done. And we are not merely talking in thin air here; we are talking about numbers that we have received." Trade has also pegged the opening of the film on a similar scale as that of Race and Welcome, two films which are next only to Om Shanti Om in terms of box office opening? "Yes, I have been informed about that. This only makes Jannat a far bigger success since the films which you mentioned were made in the budget of 50-60 crores. Whereas Jannat is merely a 10 crore film. For a film with such meager budget, the profit share only gets far bigger. Tell him that music yet again played a major role in the film taking a huge opening and he is not at all surprised, "But isn't that always been a trend for Vishesh Films right from the days of Aashique? Sadak, Murder, Raaz - we can count so many examples. Jannat pretty much adds on to the list now." Apparently, the film has taken a very good opening in overseas market as well. "Two days collections in Dubai are a mind-boggling 400, 000 Dirhams; doesn't this tell the tale? Such is the demand for the film that the distributors there have asked for 6 additional prints to be sent there", Mukesh Bhatt is clearly not trying to hide his excitement here. "We did have support from the industry for Jannat all this while and moreover we were also supremely confident about our product. We knew what we are talking about. At least we are not making brain dead movies just like some of the recent Yash Raj productions have been", he concludes.
